My child loves sensory books, so I decided to make a sensory page for the quiet book. This page was pretty easy to make, but it does take lots of different types of fabrics, though not very much.

Materials needed for sensory page:

12 two inch squares of various sensory fabrics, laces or ribbons. (I used faux leather, minky, pom pom trim, canvas, terry cloth, lycra, lace, fleece, glitter ribbon, rose applique, fringe and faux fur, but you can use whatever fabrics you like)

8.5×11 felt

thread (I just used white)

Sensory page Instructions

The first step is to cut out all your fabric scraps into 2 inch squares.

Next, mark your felt with a light fabric marker. In order to have evenly spaced squares, hold your felt page portrait and make 4 two inch lines 5/8″ away from the left edge and 5/8″ apart. Repeat 3 1/4″ away from the left edge and 5 7/8″ away from the left edge.

Pin your squares to the felt. Line them up with your pre drawn lines.

Sew your squares onto your fabric. I sewed all the fabric that was prone to fraying with a zig zag stitch.

Terry cloth square with zig zag stitches

All knit fabric that won’t fray, I sewed with a straight stitch.

I had to sew the faux leather by hand, since my machine didn’t like how thick it was.

The stitches are slightly uneven and larger than the other squares, but the fabric was pretty thick, so it was too difficult to go back and fix it.

I chose to sew the fringe a little differently, I sewed two opposite sided of the fringe, sewing along the raw edges and long edge of the fringe. Then I repeated on the other side with the other piece of fringe.

I sewed the pom pom trim across the top of the square, then folded it down and sewed across it again. I repeated until it filled up the square.
