Toddler Quiet Book Tutorial

I love quiet books, but they can be expensive to buy. Felt is super cheap at the craft store, and it isn’t hard to make pages for a quiet book. I decided to go with a velcro rainbow quiet book page for the first page since my toddler loves to do/undo velcro.

What you need for your quiet book

Materials
  • 8.5″x11″ White Felt page
  • 10″x5″ red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, and white felt
  • matching red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple and white thread
  • 6 sticky velcro dots, 1/2″
  • light blue fabric paint (optional)
  • Rainbow pattern

How to make the page

First, you need to cut out your pattern pieces. Cut out each piece and mark along the dotted line of the rainbow

Center your rainbow on the white felt page and pin the left side to the felt page. Sew along the outside edge of the pinned half of your arc.

Repeat this step with each individual color. My page has a slight gap between the orange and red because I didn’t slightly overlap the orange when I lined it up next to the red, so in order to avoid the gap, slightly overlap the orange with the red. The overlap should be about a millimeter.

Next, line up your clouds . I put the left cloud slightly over the bottom of the rainbow, and the right cloud slightly below the arc.

Now, attach one velcro dot to each rainbow arc. Put the hook side of the velcro dot at the bottom of the arc. If the dots are slightly larger than the arc, just cut the excess away. Put the loop side down just above your cloud. Make sure the velcro lines up.

Your last (optional) step is to paint your clouds with some light blue to make your clouds pop from the white page.
