I love quiet books for my daughter, so I’m making her a few pages for a book, she likes to play with and move small objects, like beads, but they are still a choking hazard for her, so I decided to make this jellyfish with cute little bead tentacles that she can move around.

Materials needed

  • 8 1/2″ x 11″ thick felt page
  • small amount of blue felt
  • small amount of green felt
  • scrap white felt
  • scrap black felt (alternatively you could use a black pen for this part)
  • 1 yard yarn (or narrow ribbon)
  • Approx. 22 beads
  • Matching blue and green thread
  • E6000 glue
  • Pattern (download below)

How to make your quiet book page

Start by cutting out your pattern pieces.

Now you will put together the eyes. I just used glue for this part, glue the black pupil to the white eye. Then glue the eyes to the jellyfish. Let dry completely.

Now you will need to put the bead on your yarn. Cut 4 pieces that are 5″ and tie a knot on one end. Put 4 beads on each tentacle. Make sure you can pull the beads quite hard without them going over the knot. Cut 4 4″ pieces from your yarn and put one or two beads on each.

I had to use a needle to get the yarn through the beads, it made this much easier to do.

Glue your tentacles to the bottom of your jellyfish. Make sure to glue the yarn 1/2″ up so it will get sewn over as well.

Place your seaweed on your white felt page. Pin in place and sew. To sew the seaweed, do one line down the middle of your seaweed. Start at the top of the seaweed and go down.

Now sew your jellyfish to your page. Sew along the outside 1/8″ away from the edge. Make sure the yarn is straight when you go over it so the tentacles will hang down straight from the jellyfish.

That’s it! Now you can attach this page to your book.
