I recently had a neighbor give us some cute clothes for my daughter. One of the items was a super adorable romper, the only problem is that is had 11 snaps on the legs. I do not like snaps and 11 snaps is way too many snaps for me, but it was the cutest romper! I decided to keep it, but make it wearable. It was really easy to turn the romper into a dress, I only needed a bit of extra fabric that I borrowed from an old t-shirt.

First, I laid out the romper and made sure it was completely flat with no wrinkles in it. Then, I laid a ruler over the romper. I tried to lay it as low and evenly as possible since I was using it as my line to cut the fabric.

After I cut the romper, I tried it on my daughter. It was a bit short for me, so I decided to add a little strip across the bottom. I used one of my old t-shirts to add the strip. I laid my shirt out flat, measured 3.5 inches and cut 3.5 inches away from the hem.

Next, I folded the dress and the strip into 1/4 and marked them, then pinned them right sides together.

Next, I sewed the strip onto the dress. Since I used a t-shirt, I didn’t need to hem the bottom of the strip of fabric.

Lastly I ironed the seam towards the top of the dress, then topstitched about 1/4″ from the strip to keep the seam clean.

That’s it! You’ve turned a romper into a dress!
