With the weather getting colder, my husband asked me to get him some hand warmers. Instead of buying them, I decided I would try to make some reusable hand warmers. These turned out really well and they were super easy to make with some scraps from around the house!

Materials

2 4″x6″ rectangles of flannel fabric

matching thread

approx 1/2 cup dried rice

essential oil (optional)

How to make reusable hand warmers

Fold over your fabric right sides together so you have a 3″x4″ rectangle.

Flannel fabric to be turned into hand warmers

Pin the long side of your square and one of the short sides. Sew along these two sides.

Cut the corner of your rectangle

Flip your rectangle right side out.

Fill the bag about 3/4 full (about 1/4 cup) with rice. If you want to add essential oil, add a few drops to the rice now.

Fold the open end of your fabric in about 5/8″ and pin.

Sew close to the edge of your fabric to close the heater bag.

Repeat all the steps with your next bag so you have two hand warmers, one for each hand! To heat these up microwave them for 30 to 60 seconds, depending on your microwave. They’ll stay warm for quite awhile.
