I have been seeing wrap style dresses all over and I really wanted to make one. I couldn’t find a pattern I liked, so I decided to make one. The neckline is higher cut so it’s not too revealing and I added pockets! It is also suitable for nursing moms since the neckline is easily pulled to the side. I bought the fabric from Walmart, it was 2 yards for $4, and they were extra wide yards (60×72) you will need 2 yards of 60″ wide fabric for this dress. Use a stretchy knit fabric for this pattern. You will use a 5/8″ seam unless otherwise noted. This wrap dress pattern is currently available in sizes x-small, small and medium. Larger sizes will be coming soon.

2 yards 60″ wide fabric (jersey knit or another stretchy knit fabric)

 One spool of matching thread

Tutorial

Set up your fabric so you can lay out your pattern. Fold the selvage over on itself. Refer to the picture below to properly lay out your pattern. Cut out your pattern pieces, and make sure to include all the pattern markings.

I couldn’t fit the whole space of where the skirt goes in this picture, but it extends below the picture.

Bodice

Pin the front and back shoulder pieces right side together. Sew along the shoulder.

Finish the neckline. Fold the fabric in 5/8″ and sew two lines, 1/2″ and 1/4″ away from the edge of your fabric (alternatively you could use a double needle to finish the neckline)

With right sides together, pin and sew up the sides of the bodice.

Next, we will gather the bust pieces. Find the double lines marked on the front cross pieces and baste along the line. Gather the fabric as tight as you can and wrap the extra thread around a pin on each side so it stays gathered.

Now you will need to sew along the front cross pieces to hold them in place. Match the left end of the bodice to the circle on the right bodice and pin. Now do the same on the opposite side. Pin all the way between each end. Sew. Now your bodice should be fully closed.

Sash

Next you will do the sash. Sew the short ends of the sash together so it’s a circle.

Attach the sash to the bodice. Place 4 pins equally spaced on both the sash and the bottom of the bodice. Match them up, and make sure the seam on the sash lines up with one of the seams on the bodice, with the right sides together. Place as many pins in between the 4 pins as you need. Sew all the way around.

Skirt

Now work on the skirt. Baste along the top of both sides of the skirt. Gather your fabric so it is barely wider than the width of the bodice

Add in the pockets. Pockets are really tricky and I always mess them up the first (and sometimes second) time. Place the straight edge of the pockets along the long edge of the skirt and the top edge of the pocket along the top of the skirt. Place the right sides together and sew along the long edge.

Pin the pockets together and down the length of the skirt. Sew along the pocket and down the skirt. Repeat on the other side.

Sew the skirt to the sash. Use the same 4 pin technique that you used to attach the sash to the bodice. Make sure to include the top of the pocket in your sewing, and make sure that the pocket is sitting at the front of the skirt.

Hem your skirt, fold up 5/8″ and sew two lines 1/2 and 1/4 inch away from the edge. (Or use a double needle)

Sleeves

Lastly, add your sleeves. Finish the long, straight edge the same way you finished the bottom of the skirt.

Pin and sew up the short edge of your sleeves.

Using your 4 pin technique, sew the sleeves to the bodice. Make sure the seam of the sleeve is lined up with the bodice seam.

Your wrap dress is done!
