I always have to take in the waist of my pants. I can never find pants that fit just right. The rest of my jeans will fit, but the waist never does. This is an easy way to bring the waist of your pants in. When I do this, I choose to sew it, but you don’t have to sew, you could use safety pins to hold the elastic in place instead. I recommend sewing if you can since it’s a bit more permanent

Materials

2 safety pins

1 needle and thread (optional)

small piece of 1 inch elastic (about 5 inches depending on how much you need to take the pants in)

scissors

Tutorial

Start by cutting two vertical lines on the waistband of your pants. Make the cuts 5-10 inches apart (the more you need to bring in the farther apart you should make these cuts) I only had to take mine in a couple of inches so I made my slits 5 inches apart. Only cut through the inside layer of the fabric. This will give the pants a casing.

Attach one end of your elastic to the edge of the slit. Attach a safety pin to the other end of the elastic and draw it through the casing.

Pull your elastic tight enough to fit your waist. I safety pin each side and try the pants on to make sure they fit, it might take a few tries.

If you don’t want to sew, you can stop here. If you do want to sew, use the needle and thread to hold the elastic in place. You’ll need to hand sew since you don’t want this to show on the outside of the pants, see my hand sewing tutorial here.

That’s it! You’re all done taking in the waist of your pants.
