If you either don’t bake or don’t have time to bake one more thing today, this is the perfect craft for you! I’m not a great baker but I still wanted to give my daughter the experience of decorating a gingerbread house. It only takes a few minutes to construct this graham cracker house!

Materials for your graham cracker house

  • 4 Graham cracker sheets (or more if you’re prone to breaking things…)
  • glue gun
  • paper plate
  • serrated knife
  • royal icing (this is fairly easy to make, but you can sometimes buy it pre-made or just skip the icing and use glue!)
  • assorted candies for decorating

How to get started

start by cutting out the front and back of your house. I just eyeballed the first one for the steepness of the roof, then layered it on top of the second cracker and cut it out as well. This can be a bit tricky and it’s easy to accidentally break the crackers. Use your serrated knife to slowly and gently saw the crackers to avoid cracking them. Don’t push down very hard and just keep trying if you break the first one! Break two sheets in half as well.

Now you are going to glue your house together. You can use frosting to do this, but it takes forever and is hard to do well. So I just use hot glue instead. Start by gluing the front to each side. Then glue the back on.

Now glue the top of the roof together, then glue the roof to the top of the house in one piece.

Once the glue has cooled, glue your house down to your paper plate.

Now you get to decorate! You can use homemade or store bought royal icing, or just use hot glue. If you don’t use royal icing, it won’t dry hard enough to hold your candy to your house.

I used icing decorating bags, but if you don’t have those, you can use a quart size bag with a tiny hole cut in one corner. Start with the smallest hole you can make and increase the size if needed. Enjoy your decorated graham cracker house!
