No Halloween decor can be complete without a witches hat! I decided to make a mini witches hat to help decorate my house. This hat is no sew, super easy and if you wanted a bigger version (maybe a wearable one) you can just size up the pattern. The current pattern is 9 inches wide and 9.5 inches tall. I used felt for this hat because it is stiff so it doesn’t require any extra wire to keep it tall or to keep the brim up.

What you need to make your witches hat

Felt approx. 20″x10″

E6000 glue or other glue that is suitable for felt

scissors

sewing pins

16″ of 1″ ribbon (optional)

Tutorial

First, cut out your felt using your pattern. Then take the top part and put a thin line of glue along one of the straight edges of the hat.

Using your sewing pins, match the straight edges together and keep the glue tight to the felt.

While you wait for the glue to dry (it takes about 20 minutes to be dry enough that it will continue to stick) cut out the brim of your hat. Cut along the solid lines, the make a slit from the inside of the brim to the dotted line (about 1/2″) about 1/2″ apart.

The slotted part of the brim goes on the inside of the hat. Put a small dab of glue on each tab then stick it to the inside of the hat. Use a pin to hold the tab in place. Continue this around the entire hat. Let dry.

If you would like, wrap your ribbon around the base of the hat. Glue it down in a few spots so it won’t fall off.

All done! You might want to add decorations to your hat, if you do, stay tuned for part 2 of witches hat decoration next week!
