I love to include my toddler in arts and crafts projects, especially ones that have minimal mess, but still capture their attention. This Valentine’s decoration craft is great for toddlers and younger children, and can be made from dollar store supplies!
Materials
1 gallon ziploc bag
1 canvas (I used an 8×10, but it didn’t quite fit in the ziploc)
acrylic paint (I used white, pink, red and purple)
masking tape
Prep your Valentine’s craft
Use your masking tape to write out your design. I wrote the word love, but a heart would also look great. Push the masking tape into the canvas firmly so you don’t get leaks from the paint.
Put spots of paint all over the canvas. I ended up adding 5 or 6 more after taking this picture and it was the perfect amount. Use the white more sparingly, it just helps spread the other paint around and blend each color.
Carefully place the canvas into the bag and zip it up. Put tape over the closure to make sure it doesn’t open.
Making your decoration
Hand to your child to smear the paint around! For the best letters, make sure there is paint fully coating the entire area near the tape.
Carefully pull the bag off the the canvas and take your canvas out of the bag. Let the canvas dry for a few minutes so it’s not drippy and take the tape off the canvas. Be very cautious when doing this part. Don’t let your fingers touch the rest of the canvas.
If you did a better job at sticking your tape down than me, you’re all done! If not, just use a paint brush and white paint to touch up theletters. Let it dry and hang up your new Valentine’s decoration!
