I wanted to make some cute clay Christmas ornaments memorializing my baby’s first Christmas. I decided I would like to DIY her ornaments. A lot of DIY clay recipes weren’t very white and didn’t look as smooth as I would like, especially the salt dough. There were some using baking soda and cornstarch, and after a little bit of tweaking, I came up with my own air dry modeling clay recipe. This recipe is so easy to make, this is a small batch, its only enough to make 1-2 small/medium ornaments, but it can easily be doubled if you’re interested in making more

Modeling Clay Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 3 tablespoons water
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch

Mix all the ingredients together in a small saucepan. Turn onto medium low heat and stir for a few minutes until the mixture turns into a soft dough, about 5 minutes. Turn off heat and let the dough cool enough that you can touch it. Put dough onto a lightly cornstarched surface and lightly knead until it is a smooth formed ball. If you are not using right away, wrap in plastic wrap and put your modeling clay in an airtight container.
