Whether you made a mistake on a project or you are taking apart an already sewn item of clothing, you have probably found yourself needing to remove snap fasteners. If this is you, you’re in the right place!

I made a cute baby romper the other day and after adding some snap fasteners, I realized the spacing wasn’t quite right. Not wanting to redo the whole project, I needed to figure out how to remove the snap fasteners. This is definitely a last resort type choice. The snap fasteners do make holes in the fabric you are using. If your snaps are in a really visible place, this might not be the best option. I was able to rub at the fabric and make the holes less visible in my fabric. Depending on the fabric type you have this might not work. All you need is a small flat head screwdriver and a pair of pliers.

Take your screwdriver and push it in between the top rivet and the fabric. Push the screwdriver in as far as you can get it.

Turn your screwdriver 90 degrees to pop the rivet out and remove it from your fabric

Now just the bottom piece will be stuck in the fabric. It might just come out from the fabric, but the prongs might still be bent enough that it will be difficult to remove. If this is the case, use the pliers to straighten out the prong so you can pull the bottom from the fabric.

Use your nail to gently rub the fabric to make any holes less noticeable.

This is what the fabric looks like after I’ve reduced the visibility of the holes.
