I have this shirt that I love. It fits great and I think it’s cute, but as I’ve been wearing it often, it’s started to stretch out in the neck. Now the neckline is a bit lower than I’m comfortable with. Luckily I know how to bring up a neckline and I thought I’d show you how I do it. It takes a few minutes and looks great, no one can tell you altered your shirt. This works on any shirt that has a shoulder seam, even this striped shirt, the slight change in the pattern is not noticeable.

The shirt in question

As you can see, this shirt is about an inch and a half lower than I would like it to be. I will be bringing the neckline up that much. First I started by taking the shirt and measuring and marking 1 1/2″ from the shoulder seam. I marked this with a pin.

Next I took my pin and moved it up to the shoulder seam so there is a 3/4″ fold at the neckline. Then I folded this into a triangle and sewed along this line. I was careful not to take any fabric away from the arm hole side. This way there isn’t any puckering in the shoulder and I don’t have to redo my sleeves as well.

Lastly repeat on the other side and you’re done, you know how to bring up a neckline!
