I love to make handmade cards for all holidays, but I think that handmade Father’s Day cards are just the best! I decided to have my child help me make a handprint Father’s Day card for my husband. It was a bit messy and it took a few tries to get the card to look the way I wanted, but it was so worth it, this card just turned out too cute!

What you will need for this card

Non-toxic washable acrylic paint

5″x7″ paper (you might want to have one or two back ups)

Marker

paintbrush

piece of plastic to put paint on (I used a sheet protector)

How to make your card

The first step is to prep the paint for the handprint. Pour your paint onto the edge of the plastic and use the paintbrush to spread your paint around on the plastic. Make sure you don’t spread the paint too big. You only want it slightly larger than your child’s hand.

Now it’s time to get your child’s handprint. This part can be kind of tricky if your child is younger, I will share some tips for getting a good handprint below. Place your plastic with the paint over where you want the handprint to land on your paper. Place your child’s hand down on the paint and press firmly with one hand while removing the plastic with the other hand.

To finish up, use the marker to write “High Five to the Best Dad Ever!” If you don’t want to use a marker, you would use stamps or stickers instead.

Tips for getting a handprint

  • Put your child in a high chair, it’s much easier to do this when they can’t walk or move away and you’re not trying to hold them on your lap.
  • Have a washcloth or paper towel ready to go. This keeps the mess at bay.
  • Don’t have anything your baby can grab nearby or it WILL get paint on it.
  • Try to do this technique once or twice on scrap paper so you get the hang of it before using the nice paper you want to use.
