I chose to fill the mug with my husband’s favorite candy and attached a cute note

Father’s day is coming up and I wanted to make something for my husband that is really cute. I wanted to make something unique and fun for him. I decided to decorate a Father’s day mug for him, I chose a black mug and used metallic sharpies to mix it up, instead of using a white mug. This is a fun, inexpensive, easy craft to do with kids.

Materials

Black Mug

Metallic Sharpies (I used gold, silver and bronze)

Washi or painters tape

Scissors

Access to an oven

Tutorial

Start by covering your saying on your mug. I chose to do “#1 DAD” cut your tape out and press it onto the mug, make sure there are no wrinkles or gaps where your tape meets. Gently press it with your nail so the ink can’t get under the tape.

Take your first sharpie color (I started with bronze) and start dotting your mug. Focus most of your dots around the edges of your tape, with less dots as you get farther away from the the taped words.

Repeat with your second and third colors. I used gold then silver.

Look at your mug and add any extra dots, I went back with the bronze so it wasn’t all covered by the other colors. Let it dry for a few hours.

Peel off the tape. If there’s any errant ink, you can use a toothpick to gently scrape most of it away, then use a Q tip covered in rubbing alcohol to get rid of the rest of the ink.

Place your mug in the oven (I put it on a tray) and turn it on to 350 degrees. Cook for 30 minutes, then turn off your oven. Leave the mug in the oven until it is completely cool.

All done! Enjoy your Father’s Day Mug!
